Teachers and classroom support employees can build basic skills with online tools by taking advantage of free courses offered through the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE).
The beginner-level Back 2 Basics training was created by SDCCOE's Educational Technology department to support educators and support employees who work directly with students.
"Being in the same classroom does not ensure that all students are engaging in active learning," said Pamela Rabin, SDCOE educational technology coordinator. "Most schools have moved back to in-person learning, and it is important that teachers build on the skills they developed during remote teaching. Teachers are now in a better position to leverage technologies that will create more responsive environments for collaboration, engagement, and knowledge expression."
The series offers a hands-on and low-pressure setting for learning that provides opportunities for individualized attention.
"I loved that the presenters would stop and answer questions and would stop to make sure that we were all on the same page, said Phyllis Meredith, a teacher in the San Diego Unified School District who participated last year. "As a beginner that was extremely helpful for me."
