Tech defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Chris Marve was selected to ESPN's 45 minority coaches under 45 to watch for future Division I head-coaching jobs list. ESPN's Adam Rittenberg mentioned how Marve has rapidly ascended in the coaching field, with recent stops at Florida State (2020-21) and Mississippi State (2019). Marve played linebacker at Vanderbilt from 2008-11 and was coached by Hokie head coach Brent Pry in Nashville.
Two Hokies were named to On3's 65 rising-star support-staff coaches you need to know list, including senior analyst Xavier Adibi and analyst Jeff Carpenter.
Adibi, who played at Tech as a linebacker from 2004-07 and was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2021, comes most recently from Texas A&M – Commerce, where he served as the defensive coordinator for three seasons (2019-21). Before his time in Commerce, he had a one-year stint (2018) at Arkansas as an analyst.
Carpenter worked as an analyst at LSU (2021) and Penn State (2018-20), overlapping with Pry and now-Virginia Tech offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Tyler Bowen. Prior to his time in Baton Rouge and State College, he was a quarterbacks coach at Bryant (2017), quality control coach at Princeton (2016) and a quality control assistant for the Houston Texans (2015). He graduated from Penn State in 2015 and was an undergraduate assistant on the football staff from 2011-14.
Tech begins fall camp next week, and fans can see the Hokies on Sunday, Aug. 14 for its annual Fan Day event, presented by Virginia529. For more details.
