Technical Tidbits 3/29: Georgia Tech Women knocked out of NCAA Tournament - From The Rumble Seat

It was a Sunday afternoon game that was within reach at many points for the Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball team, but South Carolina’s talent and shooting prowess eventually allowed them to pull away in San Antonio. The Gamecocks shot 57.1% from three-point range, and 56.4% overall, which defensively isn’t a great recipe for beating a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Jackets never gave up, with Lotta-Maj Lahtinen’s 20 points pacing the team. This season ends on a tough note, but it’s the farthest Tech has gone in the postseason since 2012 and shows that the Jackets can be contenders for years to come. Congratulations on a great season, ladies!

It was a good weekend for the Tech Baseball team, who won their series against the Duke Blue Devils. All of the games were especially exciting, as neither team won by more than three runs throughout the weekend. On Friday night, Tech won 5-2 with Justyn-Henry Malloy being the star of the night, he had some impressive defensive plays and a home run. Saturday was another three-run victory for Tech, 3-0. P Andy Archer had an 8-inning shutout and kept control as the Jackets’ bats were a little cold. The bats lit up yesterday afternoon, but weren’t enough in a 9-7 victory for Duke. There is nothing to complain about a road series victory, though. Next up for Tech is a three-game series in Atlanta against the Virginia Cavaliers that begins Thursday.

After a disappointing loss to Louisville on Friday, the Georgia Tech Volleyball team came right back and swept the N.C. State Wolfpack on Saturday. The loss to Louisville was not a good one, with the Cardinals not allowing more than 18 points in a set. That made Saturday’s win much sweeter, as N.C. State was right on Tech’s heels throughout the match. Coming back with a win was crucial, especially because the season winds to a close this weekend with games against no. 15 Notre Dame and Duke. The Jackets are currently tied with Notre Dame for no. 2 in the ACC, so a win against them Thursday would be huge.

This was certainly a fun run. With the way things are trending, I’d definitely keep an eye on the Jackets next year!

Question of the Day: What do you think of the Beesball team so far this season?
