CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – After clinching the doubles point to open the dual match against Georgia Tech (3-0), the Yellow Jackets take four singles courts to defeat Middle Tennessee (4-2) 4-2 inside the UVA Tennis Facility at the Boar's Head Resort to begin the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

With the loss, the Blue Raiders move on to the consolation match to battle for third place against Ball State on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m.

To begin the doubles portion of the dual match, Georgia Tech's top court and No. 3 in the nation Andres Martin/Marcus McDaniel bested the Blue Raider top court #44 Pavel Motl/Stijn Slump 6-1. Chris Edge and Stepan Holis equalized the doubles point at 1-1 in an emphatic 6-3 finish, they move to 6-0 on court No. 3 this season. Senior Francisco Rocha and Freshman Oskar Brostrom Poulsen performed a 7-5 clincher to give MT the doubles point.

In singles, Georgia Tech claimed four of the six first sets against MT. Rocha defeated Keshav Copra 6-3 in set one on court No. 2. Motl finished his match first, dropping two sets at 6-1 to give the Yellow Jackets the equalizing point.

#106 Holis and Edge all fell in two sets to give GT a 3-1 advantage.

Brostrom Poulsen claimed the only singles win of the day for Middle Tennessee to move to 6-0 on the season on the singles front. The Conference USA Athlete of the Week defeated Tech's Brandon McKinney in two sets 6-3, 6-2 to give MT its second point.

#30 Slump was unable to overcome #9 Andres Martin of GT, dropping his match in two sets at 7-5. Georgia Tech clinched the match at four points and Rocha's match was declared unfinshed as the Portugal native was ahead in the second set 5-4.
