Amoore hurt in Virginia Tech loss at Duke - Roanoke Times

The unranked Duke women's basketball team knocked off No. 14 Virginia Tech 63-46 on Thursday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Tech point guard Georgia Amoore was elbowed in the head by Duke's Jadyn Donovan during a scramble for a loose ball with 6:36 left in the third quarter. Amoore left the game and did not return.

Duke led 29-26 at the time Amoore left the game and kept its lead the rest of the game. After Amoore left the game, the Blue Devils promptly went on a 19-5 run to build a 48-31 cushion with 35 seconds left in the third.

Tech (13-4, 4-2 ACC) suffered its second straight loss. The Hokies lost at nationally ranked Florida State last weekend. This is the first time Tech has lost back-to-back games since it lost in the 2022 ACC tournament semifinals and in the first round of the 2022 NCAA tournament.

Virginia Tech lost at Duke (12-5, 4-2) for the second straight year.

Reigan Richardson scored 22 points for the Blue Devils, while Ashlon Jackson added 13 points.

Tech center Elizabeth Kitley had 18 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. She was the only Hokie to score in double figures.

Amoore had six points and four turnovers in 20 minutes before being knocked out of the game.

Tech's 46 points was the team's lowest total since a 51-45 loss at N.C. State on Jan. 23, 2022.

This was the first time Tech lost to an unranked team since a January 2023 loss at Miami.

Duke scored 20 points off Tech's 20 turnovers.

Tech shot just 33.3% from the field to Duke's 42.4%. Duke scored 30 points in the paint to Tech's 14.

The Hokies were only 5 of 19 from 3-point range (26.3%).

Tech was just 7 of 14 from the free-throw line.

The Hokies scored the first 11 points of the game and led 18-7 after the first quarter.

But after shooting 58.3% from the field in the first quarter, Tech shot just 28.6% in the second quarter, 21.4% in the third and 27.3% in the fourth.

Tech had seven baskets in the first quarter but just 10 the rest of the game.

Duke shot 50% from the field in the second quarter, when it outscored Tech 14-8. Tech still led 26-21 at halftime.

The Blue Devils shot a sizzling 62.5% from the field in the third quarter, when they outscored Tech 27-8.

Duke scored the first eight points of the third quarter to grab a 29-26 lead with 7:08 left in the third. Duke led the rest of the way. The Blue Devils led 48-34 entering the fourth.
