(KRON) — A Daly City man was convicted of burglary, vandalism and attempted grand theft after he broke into a San Francisco tech company’s office and stole several valuable laptops, San Francisco DA Brooke Jenkins said.

According to evidence presented at the trial, Jaylym Jackson, 29, broke into Aurora Innovation on Sunday, Oct. 15 at about 5:15 p.m. Aurora is a technology company that focuses on self-driving with an office at 85 Bluxome St.

According to a press release from the DA’s office, Jackson ransacked each floor of the building. A surveillance camera captured him taking multiple laptops and other equipment and putting them in a stolen backpack.

Jackson broke at least four doors during the burglary, the DA’s office said. He caused roughly $4,000 in damage and the laptops he stole were about $1,000 each.

Security saw Jackson on a live feed and called police. Jackson wedged himself behind a planter box on the fifth floor in an attempt to hide but he was captured, arrested and eventually convicted.

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict in this case ensures there is accountability and sends a message that commercial burglaries will not be tolerated.  Prolific thieves have an outsized impact on small businesses and neighborhoods that can lead to businesses closing.  We must do everything we can to protect our businesses and neighborhoods.”

Jackson is facing four years in prison for the burglary.
