BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football has two of its assistant coaches on On3's rising star assistants list, including offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Tyler Bowen and pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brad Glenn

With two Hokies on the list, it makes Tech tied for the most by any ACC school.

Bowen, a 12-year coaching veteran, most recently served as the tight ends coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2021 season. Bowen previously worked with head coach Brent Pry at Penn State, serving as Penn State's co-offensive coordinator/offensive recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach during the 2020 season. He coached tight ends and handled the offensive recruiting coordinator duties for the Nittany Lions from 2018-19.

During his time in State College, he mentored 2021 NFL second-round pick TE Pat Freiermuth, who hauled in eight touchdowns in 2020, the second-most of any tight end in the FBS that season. Freiermuth earned the 2020 Kwalick-Clark Award as the Big Ten Tight End of the Year, becoming the first-ever Penn State tight end to win the honor. Freiermuth earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from the league's coaches and was a second-team pick by the media. He was a second-team All-America selection by the AFCA & The Athletic in 2019 and concluded his collegiate career with 16 TD receptions, the most ever by a Penn State tight end.

Glenn enters his first year in Blacksburg following a three-year run as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Georgia State and has previously been a Broyles Award Nominee as the top assistant coach in the nation.

Glenn owns a reputation for developing record-setting passers at virtually every stop of his collegiate coaching career, including Appalachian State QB Armanti Edwards, who became the first two-time winner of the Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the nation's top FCS player. Edwards became the first quarterback in NCAA history to pass for over 10,000 yards and run for over 4,000 yards in his collegiate career. He concluded his career at Appalachian State with 14,753 yards of total offense, a figure that ranked second in FCS history behind the late Steve McNair of Alcorn State. Edwards also earned Southern Conference Player of the Year honors working with Glenn.
