Tech improved to 6-9 all-time in the challenge after defeating Maryland, 62-58, last season behind Keve Aluma (17 points) and Justyn Mutts (16 points).
Minnesota is under the direction of head coach Ben Johnson, who enters his second season at the helm. The Gophers return six letterwinners, including starter Jamison Battle. Seven newcomers will join a squad that went 13-17 overall, 4-16 in Big Ten play a season ago.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise the entire 2022 event, matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioner's Cup. All games will also be available via the ESPN app.
Building off the Alliance Teammates for Mental Health initiative that launched during last year's ACC/Big Ten Challenge (men's and women's basketball), the conferences will once again use this premier event to raise awareness as to the importance of mental health and wellness, building upon the continued work by each conference.
