Box Score BLACKSBURG, Va. – Columbia Baseball (31-17) fell, 24-4, to the No. 4 Virginia Tech Hokies (43-12) to fall into the elimination bracket at the Blacksburg Regional, Saturday night at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.

Columbia remains in the hunt at the regional and will face Gonzaga on Sunday, June 5 at 1 p.m. and another win over the Bulldogs would give Columbia another crack at Virginia Tech later in the evening (7 p.m.).

"I thought we did somethings well early on and thought that we did well against their starter," said head coach Brett Boretti.  "Obviously the big inning was tough.  We played a really good team, that is really good offensively and we couldn't find our way out of that inning.

"The game is over and tomorrow is a new day.  We have to be able to put it behind us as quickly as possible and move onto the next one.  We will look to make the most out of the opportunity that's in front of us tomorrow."

Austin Mowrey had a good day at the plate, getting three hits, including digging hard for a seventh inning double.  Skye Selinsky added a home run in the fourth and both Joshua Solomon and Cole Hage added RBIs to go along with an Hayden Schott double in the second inning.

Virginia Tech used a 14-run fourth inning to put a lead on the Lions that Columbia would not come back from.  In the frame, the Hokies scored the 14 runs on 10 hits as the Lions had difficulty finding a few fly balls in the lights which resulted in the Hokies clearing the bases twice to go along with a two-run inside the park home run.

GAME NOTES:
- Columbia set a school record for hits in a single season, and they now have 515 hits on the season ...
- Hayden Schott moved into a tie with Tyler MacGregor for the most doubles (18) in a single season in program history ...

UP NEXT: Columbia will face Gonzaga for the second time this weekend on Sunday, June 5 at 1 p.m.  A win against the Bulldogs would put them up against Virginia Tech later that night at 7 p.m.
