ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Virginia Tech volleyball team fell to the No. 13 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in straight sets (21-25, 15-25, 15-25) Sunday on the road at O'Keefe Gym.

The loss dropped Virginia Tech's record to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in ACC action.

Sydney Petersen finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Hokies attack, while finishing with a hitting percentage of .471. Tech got six digs from Hanna Borer to lead them defensively, as she also added 18 assists.

How It Happened

The Hokies battled in a back-and-forth first set, losing 25-21 in a game that featured two lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match. Tech recorded 3.5 blocks in the first set, as Cara Lewis, Ava Francis and Petersen led the way with two block assists each. Logan Mosley also had three digs in the first.

Virginia Tech then dropped the second set 25-15 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Hokies had their best offensive performance in the second set, hitting at a .258 clip. Petersen recorded four kills on five attempts, leading the way with a .800 hitting percentage. Lewis also added four kills and a solo block.

Georgia Tech took the third set 25-15 as the Yellow Jackets hit a match-high .423 with 13 kills to complete the sweep. Julia Bergmann ended the match with 22 kills and a .415 hitting percentage to lead Georgia Tech. Erin Moss also added eight kills and two block assists. The Yellow Jackets ended the match with seven total blocks, compared to 5.5 from the Hokies. Georgia Tech also hit over .200 in every set.

The Hokies are back in action next week, hosting Boston College on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. Tech will round out the weekend with Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m.
