Memorable Games

Oct. 2, 2010 - Virginia Tech 41, NC State 30 (Raleigh, N.C.)
The last time the two battled in Raleigh was a little over a decade ago, when a late-game comeback helped the Hokies overcome a 17-point deficit and secure the win. Tech found itself down early, after two touchdowns from quarterback Russell Wilson and a field goal from kicker Josh Czajkowski put NC State up 17-0 moments into the second quarter. After that, the Hokies kicked it into high gear, led by quarterback Tyrod Taylor and running back Darren Evans, with the two combining for 281 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Through the air, Taylor passed for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Tech capped off the comeback with a 39-yard passing touchdown to wide receiver Jarrett Boykin with just under 90 seconds left in the game. The 17-point rally marked the biggest comeback under head coach Frank Beamer at the time.

The 2009 matchup between the two programs was a dominant performance for the Hokies, delivering on both sides of the ball. Running back Ryan Williams was the star for Tech, rushing for 120 yards and four touchdowns. His four-touchdown day helped him on his way to his eventual 21 on the season, which is currently the most by a Hokie in a season to this date. On the defensive side, the Hokies racked up six sacks, 18 quarterback hurries and four forced fumbles. The win moved Tech to 9–3 on the season and up to No. 14 in the country.
