Georgia Tech is hoping to make a big turnaround on defense this season and there might not be a unit in need of a turnaround more than the run defense. Georgia Tech had one of the worst run defenses in the country last year, but they do return some leaders up front and one of those players is defensive lineman Makius Scott, who had 34 tackles last season. Scott is going to be one of the key players on defense and he spoke with the media after practice on Thursday. Here is everything that he had to say.

1. On how playing all over the line of scrimmage helped him with Jess Simpsons scheme...

"Yes sir, it helped out a lot 'cause I'm a dual guy. I get to play in two positions. I actually like it. Like I could, I feel like I'm a piece guy. I'm a matchup guy. You can move me around anywhere and that's what Coach Simpson likes as well. He can move me through technique, two I, five anywhere. I'm just a matchup guy. right?"

2. On if he likes playing inside and outside...

"Yeah, so I'm comfortable anywhere. I just want to play and just help the team no matter which position that it comes, whether it's in or tackle. That's what I'm trying to."

3. On being a former ball boy for the Falcons and getting to know Jess Simpson there...

"Yes, sir. So he actually recruited my junior to my end. when he was at Miami. And then my senior year, going into my senior year, he went to the Falcons. And so I got the bar boy for the Falcons at the Boys and Girls Club. Shout out to the Boys and Girls Club. And I just got a ball boy with him there since throughout that whole season. So me and him already got that really connection or whatnot. And I just seen him in like NFL players getting coached by him. That was a great experience for me. So that was a great experience. My whole senior year of high school ball. And I appreciate that. The same thing, the same intensity, the same love. He cares for it. He shows us where it's guys. He always wanted to get us a job done. Like he did some hands -on coach."

4. On how the defense is progressing under the new staff this spring...

"Oh, I feel like we've progressed. progressing to a very, we're going up, we're projecting in the right direction. It takes time just to learn the new terminology, the different coaching brand game, but at the end of the day it's just ball, like we just got to come in there and do our job at the end of the day and just take one step."

5. On how detailed Coach Simpson is...

"Oh, yes sir for sure cause like he's so detailed and we we trying to be like we trying to be the best place We can be and him by fixing our detail of being precise and everything that we do I just feel like that's gonna take us to the next level where we're trying to get to and just trying to get one percent better I was saying before like and that's gonna help with that just trying to get coached by him and do everything he says because he know what it looks like you know what it takes."

6. On how his experience helps him...

"Throughout my years here, throughout the different coaches, I just try to take as much, as from each coach that I've been coached by, and just try to embody it in the win. Because every coach that I haven't had has a unique coaching style about themselves, whether it's coming out my heels, whether it's my hand placement, or just knowledge about the game. So I just try to take the coach. take the coaching from everybody and just knowledge it in the win and just try to be the best player I can be on the field."

7. On his relationship with offensive tackle Jordan Williams...

"That's my brother like we've been, we've been knowing each other since we were little kids, so like just going against him every day, just seeing him get better throughout these years. He's been a blessing like him seeing me get better. We just working together trying to get better, trying to taste our dreams day in and day out. And this is only up from here."
