MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State Volleyball's winning streak reached an Ohio Valley Conference best 10 matches Wednesday night as the Eagles overcame 22 blocks from Tennessee Tech to outlast the Golden Eagles 3-1 at Johnson Arena.MSU (14-9/10-2 OVC) swept the season series from its new league travel partner despite dropping the first set. TTU slipped to 11-12 overall and 6-6 in the conference. Tech opened with five blocks in the first set to set its defensive tone and won 25-16. But, the home team rallied with 25-23 wins in the next two and finished it off with a 25-19 triumph in the fourth frame. MSU now leads the series 77-20.
Morehead State had 11 blocks of its own, including a team-high five from freshman Maycie Welborn - who now has at least one block in nine straight matches. Freshman McKenzee Wagener matched Welborn with five turnaways, while freshman Irene Wogenstahl had four.
In other point-scoring areas, grad student Olivia Lohmeier led the Eagles with 16 kills while also adding three of the Eagles' 10 aces. Wogenstahl hammered down 12 kills, her second straight double-digit kill effort. Lohmeier's career kill count now stands at 1,862.
Junior defender Olivia Montelisciani was big on the back row, scooping up a season-high 19 digs, which tied her career high. She also smacked in four aces. Setter Bridget Bessler recorded her eighth double-double of the fall with 49 assists and 10 digs.
Just like in the previous matchup of the two Eagle teams this season, both squads struggled to hit at a high clip. MSU notched 57 kills to TTU's 46 but the 22 blocks hampered the efficiency to .132. TTU didn't fare much higher at .166. Skyler Boom led Tech with 12 blocks, while Taylor Dorsey was a part of 10 blocks.
Morehead State will look to keep up the success streak this weekend when SIU Edwardsville visits for a pair of matches. Friday is at 6 p.m. ET, and Saturday is at 11 a.m. prior to the Eagle football home game.
